The Essay "Aesthetics of Nostalgia in Three Contemporary Latin American Films" was published in the Indexed Academic Journal of Art Sciences of the Philipp University of Marburg in Germany (2022).  

 

The essay is about the use of analog film technologies in times of digital cinema and deals with topics of nostalgia and digitalization.  It raises questions about media historicity and cultural hybridity in contemporary film media.

In digital times, and with the mediated past always at the reach of our fingertips: how do we engage with the analog present?

 

The essay aims to understand the implications of analogy as an aesthetic choice by analyzing three films from different Latin American countries that were shot in analog technologies in the contemporary digital era. Taking the materiality, style, narrative, and filmmaking process of the medium into account.
